Recently I’ve finished watching «Normal People» based on Sally Rooney’s novel of the same name, on BBC.

Actually I watched it here https://ororo.tv/ru as I`m the so-called participant of the group subscription there (it was a good purchase, in fact)

Well,..

Ireland, aesthetic, Irish, my poor ears, love and lots of those very scenes…

The plot is pretty simple and comprehensible. This was my initial opinion, maybe, after having seen 4-5 episodes.

Connell is a brilliant student, a good sportsman and a very handsome guy and Marianne is also smart but on the contrary she is an outsider.

There was no chance of them talking but it happened so as one day Connell came to her house to pick his mother who worked there as a cleaner. Sooner they start a peculiar kind of relationship. Connell can’t show his feelings towards her in public as he is afraid to become the same outsider too. Marianne seems to be okay with it. They go on meeting. Some time later, before the school ball, Connell did one thing that offended Marianne very much.

They met again at Trinity college and it was like they reversed their roles. Marianne made new friends, became desirable and popular, had a boyfriend and Connell struggled to fit in the new life and couldn`t calm down about it.  He worked in the evenings to pay for a rented room and she lived in her own flat. Throughout their college life Marianne and Connell were together and broke up and over and over again but there was always a kind of connection between them, even when Connell had another girlfriend and when Marianne was in Sweden.

It’ s a story not only about two people who loved each other but also about their hidden worries, the reasons for smth. inexplicable between their connection. It`s the story about the invisible struggles of those who seem to be alright, about ignorance, betrayal and the way to peace and happiness.

→ There are too many bed scenes, even for me 🙂 but I endlessly admire the actors who got naked in front of the shooting team and the whole TV audience.

→ Although others told that Connell appeared as a moaner and the real looser in college, I feel okay with his behaviour. I was just in the same mood while watching it, so I completely understand him.

→However, it’s a mystery to me why Marianne and Connell broke up in one period of college…why they dated someone new.

→I liked the atmosphere of the TV — series, the visual part is nice.

→Initially I watched episodes with subtitles which means I literally read them without practising listening skills (esp. with the Irish language). Instead, I wrote down interesting sentences, phrases and words, I just need to look them through from time to time. I tried to listen and understand the last 7 episodes:)

→There was some information on the shooting of the second season, so I’am waiting for it eagerly!
