It was wise of me to look all the information about the country and the cities through beforehand.

It so happened that I was to arrive to the city of Genova at 11:30 and had 11 hours to explore the city, so I could not spend this time waiting at the bus station.

Everybody knows about transfer, taxi and car rentals but what if you have neither driver licence nor intention to waste money?

Here are some inexpensive ways to get to Genova from the airport.

The first one is pretty simple- walk on foot. Aeroporto di Genova is located 6 or so km far from the city itself. If you have courage, energy, time and the will to save money- this way is the best for you. You can take a map of the city in the airport for free and hit the road! This way you can explore more parts of the city.

The second way is to go by Volabus. One ticket costs 6€. You can catch the bus on the ground floor of the airport right next to the entry. It`s necessary to have 6€ in cash and more preferably without change. The bus departs at some places including Brignole, Piazza de Ferrari, Principe and some others. The whole ride will take from 20 to 30 minutes depending on the place you need to get off. You can check the timetable here https://www.airport.genova.it/en/transportation-airport/. You can save 1€ by booking a bus ticket online. For further information check the website of the airport.

The third way is a little bit more complicated and is more for experienced and smart travellers but it`s cheaper. Firstly, you need to take Flybus on the ground floor of the airport next to the entry (you see, Flybus and Volabus arrive at the same place). The ticket price is 1.60€. The bus departs at Sestri Ponente Aeroporto railway station. Then you need to take a train to Principe (or Brignole but it`s a more distant area and has not so many places to look at). The ticket price is 1.30€. The whole ride will take about 40 minutes under the condition that you know what to do and where to go. The great advantage of this way is the saved 3.10€. You should know that this money could be spent on one food purchase in a supermarket or on McFlurry (that actually costs 2.50€) or a ride by funicular etc.

When I arrived at Genova for the first time, I intended to go by the cheapest way but I took Volabus under one circumstance. When I turned back to the city and needed to go to the airport, I took a train first and then caught Flybus. This way I had an experience of using a new kind of transport with the locals.

That is all for now. I hope this article is useful for you if you happen to travel to Genova.
